In the hoop Pumpkin Post It Notepad Holder

Supplies:

  • 2 layers of water-soluble stabilizer (WSS) or one layer of Vilene
  • 2 pieces 6 x 7 ½ of orange fabric
  • 1 piece of E-Z Felt (or Timtex) cut 6 x 7 ½
  • 4 x 4 piece of cutaway stabilizer
  • 1 piece of orange or coordinating fabric (for pocket) 4 x 8 and then fold and press in half
  • Orange bobbin
  • White bobbin or regular embroidery bobbin thread
  • KK2000 spray
  • Stencil cutter (optional)
  • Applique scissors ~ very helpful
  • Fray check

INSTRUCTIONS:

Starch and iron your fabrics.

Hoop the stabilizer in the 5 x 7 hoop

Stitch #1 on stabilizer.  This is a placement guide.

Take a piece of E-Z Felt and an orange piece of fabric and use KK2000 to hold them together.  Spray the back side of the felt and lay this piece on top of the stabilizer covering the stitched outline and put your hoop on your machine.  Stitch out #2.  Take off machine and trim around the stitches taking care not to cut through them.

Stitch:

# 3 is black for the face.

#4 is brown for the stem.

#5 is green for the leaves.

#6 is a placement line to lay your folded 4 x 8 piece of fabric (place the 4 x 4 piece of cutaway stabilizer in between the folded piece) with the fold lined up with the stitched line.   Use matching thread.  These stitches will be permanent.  NOTE:  You might one to use a piece of scotch tape to hold the fabric in place.

#7 stitches the fabric in place.  Trim excess fabric and stabilizer and then stitch # 8 (satin stitch to finish the raw edges).

#9 is the decorative stitching on the edges of the pad.  I used black thread but you can use whatever color suits you.

Before stitching #10 change to your orange bobbin.  Take the last piece of 6 x 7 1/2″ orange fabric, spray it with KK2000 and attach this to the BACK of the hoop with the orange fabric right side up.  Stitch #10 (2 times) then take your hoop off your machine and trim the fabric on the back close to the stitching.  Place hoop back on the machine and stitch remaining colors using orange thread.

Once design has finished you can take hoop off the machine, unhoop the project and cut close to the satin stitches to cut away the WSS and then use a wet sponge or paper towel to wash away any remaining stabilizer.  Or you can keep the project in the hoop and use your stencil cutter and burn away the WSS.   You are DONE….ENJOY!

I am so hopeful that you will create a similar item for the winter holidays so that I can fulfill the Christmas list I have created!
